Scrap-a-gone Hexagon Quilt Pattern: Finally in the Shop!
The wait is finally over! My Scrap-a-gone Hexagon Quilt Pattern is now available in my Etsy shop, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.
If you’ve been following along, you might remember when this quilt was featured in Love Patchwork and Quiltingmagazine last spring—which was such an honor!
The magazine had exclusive rights to the pattern for six months, and so many of you told me you were waiting to buy it directly from me (which was so sweet). Well, that six-month wait is over, and the pattern is ready for you to grab.

What Makes the Scrap-a-gone Quilt Special?
This quilt is all about using up your scraps in a fun, colorful way. The design features a central panel of foundation paper pieced hexagon blocks—half patterned fabric, half solids—arranged in four color quadrants. It’s perfect for mixing different colors, different patterns, and all those lovely scraps you’ve been saving.
The best part? You don’t need much of any one fabric to make this work. Just pick your four color groupings, gather some patterns and solids, and let the scrappy magic happen.

Three Size Options to Fit Your Project
The pattern includes three quilt size options, so you can choose what works best for you:
Baby Quilt (36″ x 36″)
This size features just the central hexagon panel—modern, bright, and perfect for playing with color combinations depending on the baby or kid you’re making it for.
Throw with Charm Pack Squares (63″ x 63″)
This is the version that appeared in the magazine. It uses charm pack squares for the background and border—ideal if you’ve got leftover charm packs in low volume or any color you fancy. And because it’s meant to be scrappy, you don’t need all the squares to match!
Quick Finish Throw (70″ x 70″)
Don’t have charm pack squares? No problem. This slightly larger throw size features the same central hexagon section with a big, beautiful negative space border made from yardage. You can go from baby quilt to full throw in just an extra evening of piecing.

Foundation Paper Piecing Made Easy
The hexagon blocks are foundation paper pieced, which I know can sound intimidating if you’ve never tried it before. But here’s the thing: FPP is basically stitch-by-number. You follow the numbers, stitch on the lines, and end up with polished, precise blocks—even when you’re using funny-shaped scraps with ragged edges.
Watch the full tutorial below where I walk you through making a hexagon block from start to finish. You’ll see how forgiving the process is and how you can use either the templates included in the pattern or the rough-cut measurements (I actually think rough cutting might be easier for this one!).

The background and borders are traditionally pieced, so once you’ve made your hexagon blocks, the rest comes together quickly.

So Many Ways to Use These Blocks
I’ve been working with these hexagon blocks for years, and I love how versatile they are. You don’t have to make a full quilt—you can play with them in all sorts of ways:
- Minimalist quilts: My sister’s quilt from 2021 used just a few blocks with lots of negative space. I even pieced some strips for the patterned side of the hexagons to add extra interest.
- Mini quilts: I sized the blocks down for a mini quilt swap, and it turned out adorable.
- Custom layouts: For my friend Jackie, I used African wax print fabrics and omitted some hexagon blocks to make the central panel itself into a hexagon shape, then added improv strips to the border.
- Holiday projects: I’m currently working on a Christmas version using scrappy creams and reds, which I’ll be sharing on the channel in December. If you buy the pattern now, you can make a smaller holiday project first and then tackle the full quilt later!
